Hope and Faith

Story told by their mother;

Hope and Faith were born prematurely at 24 weeks and were attributed the names Hope and Faith because of their dire situation. The Hospital Chaplain was assigned and advised they would not make it. Hope had to be taken away immediately by air ambulance to a special hospital and Faith was subsequently born with cerebral palsy.

Despite their individual trauma, Faith and Hope survived their ordeal thanks to the medical professionals and health teams involved in their fight for survival and birth from the outset.

Today they are as much fighters as back then as they let nothing stop them from doing day to day activities, despite health and physical challenges.

I’m so proud of them and will always encourage them to strive to do their best and let nothing stop them reaching their personal goals. Thankfully they survived a traumatic journey, but their positive journey continues with the love and support from family and friends who have been a constant and reassuring influence in their lives.

Why I am Unique.

 I was born very early, at 26 weeks. My parents prayed and waited 13 years for me to arrive, they thought I’d never come…. But I did! I needed a lot of care in hospital for the first 6 months of my life. I had many major surgeries on my tummy and heart. I became very sick and had 60% of my bowels  removed, so I now have 'Short Bowel Syndrome'. As a result, my intestines did not absorb nutrition vital to survive, so I needed to be fed through my veins - IV (TPN). I was cared for at home by many nurses because i was fed through IV till I was almost 3, I also had two Ostomys and a feeding tube in my tummy. It did not stop me from enjoying nursery school, as the nurse came with me. Today I no longer need an IV to feed! I can eat and drink anything orally! I also have Autism. I sometimes need extra support, and attend a special school, where there’s other kids just like me. I love gaming, building and math! I know I’ll be an engineer one day.

My family and I are grateful for our journey, I’m healthy and well, despite how life started. I know God put me here to make someone smile every day!
